Northern Residents Deduction Announcement

Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan

Over the past 6 years under Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Government, life has become increasingly more expensive for all Canadians; however, Canadians who live in rural and northern communities have been hit harder. That is why today, Conservative Candidate for Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River is announcing that a Conservative Government will take meaningful steps to make life more affordable for residents in Northern Saskatchewan.

Conservatives will expand and double the Northern Residents Deduction to benefit most Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River residents:

  • Those in the current Northern Zone will see their claim amount DOUBLED, meaning the average couple or person living alone will receive over $1,200 more per year
  • Those in the current Intermediate Zone will be placed at the same level as the rest of Northern Canada, meaning the average couple or personal living alone will see their benefit increase to more than $2,400 per year
  • Many who don’t currently reside in a zone will now be included, making them eligible for more than $2,400 per year plus travel benefits

“This announcement today is an absolute game changer for the communities in Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River. As someone who has filed thousands of tax returns during my time as an accountant over 30 years, I know just how meaningful this announcement is for everyone across the north” – Gary Vidal, Conservative Candidate for Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River
